| Do I need to use *Wildcards* when I search? | No, our AREIS Application takes care of inserting wildcards for you. For a detailed explanation, Click Here |
| How do I report a problem with a Structure Sketch or Photo? | There is now a link to an email address on the Structure Photo Window which may be used to report any problems (black picture, no picture, dramatic change in appearance). An email address will be provided on the Structure Sketch Window shortly. |
| Why is the AREIS Online window so small (or so big) on my screen? | Try changing your screen resolution. We have found through testing that a resoluton of 800x600 (or higher) yeilds the best results. If AREIS looks too small, lower your resolution. |
| Why does my printed out map look weird? (white/red lines, black background, etc.) | We have had reports of the map printing poorly. We are not able to replicate this error at our office but are looking into the problem. If you encounter this, PLEASE use the FEEDBACK and let us know the type of browser and printer(also if it is color or black & white) you are currently using. |
| Why doesn't the Previous Map button always work? | At this time, we are able to offer a "Previous Map" button that has limited capabilities. It works only after you have ZOOMED or PANNED on the map. It will not work if the last action performed was turning on/off a layer, a search, or if you just left the data pages. |
| Why have Right Clicks been disabled? How can I save the map? | We had to disable "Right Click" functionality for technical reasons. You may now right click on the map in the AREIS Online Applicaton Window to save it. You can also save the map by choosing the Print tool and selecting the Map Only option. Once the new browser window appears with the map in it, Right Click on the map and perform a "Save As...". |
| Why do the Aerial Photos look different than before? | Since the inception of GIS in Lucas County in 1996, we have periodically acquired orthophotography
(aerial photos). The first set of orthophotography was acquired in 1995 and a second set was acquired in 1998. These first two flights were
performed with a traditional form of film photography. Although the quality of these pictures was exceptional, the cost was steep and the processing
time was approximately one year. In the interest of being able to acquire photography more frequently, Lucas County contracted with a company to create aerial photos using digital photography. Generating the photos in this manner costs 1/10th as much as the traditional photography and has processing time of only a one(1) month. This will enable the County to receive new orthophotos on a yearly basis. In order to maximize the usefullness of AREIS Online, we intend to research the possibility of displaying the new digital imagery, as well as the older version of the aerial photos. |
| When searching can I search with "wildcards" (i.e. *, ?, and, or)? | No. Wildcards are not supported, you may however search with partial names, street names, and address ranges. |
| How do I print to another printer? | The material printed by AREIS online will print to the default printer of the machine running AREIS Online. AREIS Online does not currently have the option to select another printer when printing the desired information. To print to a different printer, you will have to change the default printer on your computer. |
| Why does the map I printed not fit on the paper? | When printing the "Map Only" option, you will need to change your settings to print in LANDSCAPE format. |
| Why can't I read some of the text when I print a map? | When printing a map, if the aerial photos are not on, the text is surrounded by small gray boxes. These boxes are used so that you can easily read the text when the aerial photos are on, unfortunately they make the text hard to read when no photos are on. We are working to reslove this issue. |
| Why do the fonts in AREIS Online not fit on my screen or look weird? | We have found that if you change your Browser Text size, this problem
is fixed. To do this, follow these steps: MS Internet Explorer Click the VIEW MENU, hover over TEXT SIZE and choose Medium Netscape Click the VIEW MENU, hover over TEXT SIZE and choose 100% (original size) |
| Why does it take so long for the map to change? | The time it takes to draw the map is dependent on general Internet congestion levels as well as some factors under your control. The more layers (lines/shading/text/photos) you have open at a time, the longer it will take to draw. This becomes very apparent if you are zoomed out quite a bit with many layers on, it takes more time to draw all of the detail. Try turning off some of the layers until you are zoomed in to an acceptable level. |
| Why doesn't the information change when I choose a different entry in the Results Window? | Make sure you are actually clicking on a word or number in the results window, not in blank space. |
| Why does nothing select when I click on the map? | First, make sure you have the Identify tool selected from the Toolbar. If Identify is your selected tool and you still receive no results, you have most likely clicked on a Street or Right-Of-Way which are not selectable. Try again and make sure you are clicking within a Parcel boundary. |
| Why can't I select multiple parcels, create buffer searches, zoom in by drawing a box, or pan by dragging? | Features will be added in the future as better technology becomes available. |
