Don't Worry,...Be Prepared
|
Typically, Lucas County, in Northwest Ohio, experiences a number of natural, man-made and technological emergencies or disasters each year. Emergencies and disasters occur at any time of the year and at any hour of the day or night. The effects of any disaster often cascade through an unprepared community causing injury to people and property that persist for days to weeks. Disruption of water, gas and electrical services along with the destruction of homes and businesses creates conditions that threaten lives and property and delays the recovery process.
The Lucas County Emergency Management Agency encourages citizens, business owners and industry to plan and prepare for potential disruptions that occur as a result of disasters. The Agency recommends that each family should plan to provide for their own needs for up to 72 hours, short of a medical emergency. Two ways that you can prepare for any emergency are to develop a Family Disaster Plan and assemble a Family Disaster Supplies Kit. To help you in planning for emergencies a number of helpful materials may be down loaded from the list below.
Businesses and industry executives should plan and prepare for all emergencies as they do for fires, severe storms and in some cases flooding. They should also encourage emergency planning by their employees. The better prepared the entire community can be the sooner they will be able to return to normal in the recovery following a disaster.
