392 Drainage Ditches General Information
| 392 Drainage Ditches General Information |
| Although many ditches throughout Lucas County are
called county or township ditches and are shown in the
records of the County Engineer, there are no funds provided by the state or county to improve or maintain these ditches. The county does not have ecisements or right of way established along ditches which cross private property. In most cases, any work that is preformed must be initiated by petition from the property owners and paid for through assessments.
An exception is the maintenance of roadside ditches along the 300 mile county road system where road funding may be used to protect the pavement and roadway from flooding. Please remember, this maintenance is only on the county road system because the County Engineer does not maintain any storm drainage ditches or sewers along township, city or village roads and streets.
If you have a clogged storm sewer, ditch or catch basin located along a county road, call the Road Maintenance Department at 893-2232 between 7:30 am. and 3:30 p.m. If you need further information on the Ohio Ditch Petition Law, please call 213-4540 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.
