Applications/resumes are accepted by the Lucas County
Children Services Personnel Department throughout the year, during recruitment
career fairs, by people applying in person, and in response to
ads/announcements.
A prescreen rating system is applied to all casework
applications. Applications are evaluated according to educational background and
work experience (both paid and volunteer).
Top candidates are scheduled into a
testing/orientation session and a structured interview. The testing/orientation
session is scheduled approximately once a month. The session runs for 3 1/2
hours and includes an introduction to Lucas County Children Services, a job
preview discussion and testing. Six to eight individual structured interviews
are generally scheduled each month. A panel of two to three managers
participates in the interview and questions the applicant.
When all paperwork (testing/structured interview
results, references, police checks, etc.) is gathered, a letter is sent to the
applicant informing them of their employment eligibility status.
Approved applicants are hired for casework training
classes based on the Agency’s staffing needs. The training class lasts a minimum
of six weeks and caseworkers are assigned to casework vacancies/units when the
class is completed. Trainees may be assigned to any shift.
