Our 25th Lucas County Prosecutor was one of the youngest to be elected to that position. He was
elected at the age of 32, in 1915. Born in Toledo, D'Alton was educated in the Toledo public
schools. He was an energetic, "self-made man," being the son of a tailor and his wife. In order
to help support himself, he had been a messenger boy and a telegraph operator. He attended night
law school at Detroit College of law, from which he received an LLB in 1910. Five years later, he
was elected Prosecutor of Lucas County.
What is especially interesting about him is that after graduating from law school and moving to
Toledo, he did not immediately engage in the practice of law. Rather, he became a Court
Stenographer. He was, however, admitted to the Ohio bar in 1911. In fact, when he was elected
Lucas County prosecutor, he was still working as a Court Stenographer.
Following his term as prosecutor, D'Alton formed the law firm of Boggs and D'Alton in the Nicholas
Building.
