Health Update: Lucas County Kicks Off Pandemic Flu Awareness Campaign
|
Will bird flu mutate and cause worldwide illness and death? Will you be prepared? The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department’s Pandemic Flu Awareness campaign will officially kick off Monday, June 12, 2006. The campaign will begin by the agency sponsoring an educational seminar for elected officials to help them learn about pandemic flu and how to prepare their community. For the past several weeks, the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department has been meeting with local community partners including the American Red Cross Greater Toledo Area Chapter, United Way of Greater Toledo, The University of Toledo, Employers Association, Good Samaritan Outreach Center, and other community partners to develop this campaign to educate all area residents about pandemic flu.
Since November 2005, the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department has been providing educational presentations regionally and locally to a variety of groups and individuals from public health, healthcare, response agencies, business organizations, and schools. According to Dr. Grossman, health commissioner, “conducting this educational campaign may be the only means to minimize the impact of pandemic flu.”
Throughout the summer, pandemic flu seminars will be provided to the general public, businesses, education officials, healthcare providers, daycare personnel and faith-based organizations. All individuals are encouraged to become knowledgeable about pandemic flu and to begin preparing their families, businesses, and schools for a possible pandemic flu. Information and links to pandemic flu information is available on the department’s website at: www.lucascountyhealth.com.
