Public Pools Checklist
|
- Main drain secured - cannot be removed without tools
- All other outlets should be covered with suitable grates, which
cannot be removed without tools
- Skimmers operating properly - all weirs in place
- Underwater lights work - lights are needed on pool where
swimming is permitted after dark
- Steps, ladders, handrails installed and secured
- Depth markers - must be slip resistant and 4 inches in size minimum
- No diving signs on deck - must be slip resistant
- Warning/caution sign(s) posted - for spa and closed pools and spas
- Deck area clean and free of safety hazards
- Telephone with posted emergency numbers - location of phone posted
- Perimeter fence in good repair
- Working flow meter
- Working chlorinator or brominator
- Chemicals properly stored
- DPD test kit (OTO test kits are PROHIBITED)
- Daily records maintained - record on supplied log sheet
- Water test taken every 4 hours on pools and once every 12 hours

- Chlorine level for pools 1.0 ppm minimum
for spas 2.0 ppm minimum
- Bromine level for pools 2.0 ppm minimum
for spas 2.0 ppm minimum
- Sufficient clarity - the main drain is readily visible from pool side
- Vacuum limit switches in working order. If tested by a license
plumber, a verification of testing should be available
Safety Equipment
- First aid kit - soap, gauze, plastic gloves
Pools With Lifeguards
- Lifeguard certifications on file
- Rescue tube and CPR pocket mask - one for each lifeguard
- Spine board with straps and immobilizers
- Non telescopic reach pole
Pools Without Lifeguards
- Non telescopic reach pole
- USCG type IV floatation device (ring buoy) with 1/4 in line
> 30 ft and < 60 ft
- Spine board
Inspections Required
- Call the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department for pre opening
inspection at 213-4100 #3 for Environmental Health and ask for your
pool inspector
- All changes in equipment, structure, and/or plumbing must have
pre-approval
