The Lucas County Solid Waste Management District (District) mission is to develop programs which enable residents to easily recycle common household wastes as well as to assist business and industry with the implementation of waste reduction programs.
Goal
The Lucas County Solid Waste Management District’s goal is to enable residents to be able to easily recycle more items through various and continued programs offered by the District. Also, the District will maintain and continue our present programs with businesses and industry. Working together with all Cities, Townships, and Villages in Lucas County enables the District to be able to adjust our programs to meet the District’s recycling responsibilities as directed by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
The District will support voluntary programs designed to reduce, reuse and recycle solid waste
implemented and operated by private sector companies, not-for-profit and municipal agencies.
The District will emphasize education and provide technical assistance to local governmental
agencies and commercial and industrial generators. Educational and technical assistance will
focus on waste minimization, reuse and recycling opportunities as the most effective strategies
of our integrated solid waste management programs.
The District further recognizes the importance of and is committed to aggressive enforcement
action against violators of solid waste, nuisance and environmental laws as a final part of
integrated solid waste management. The District is committed to utilizing the private sector
businesses, agencies, citizens groups and other local political subdivisions in the development
and implementation of programs and rules to accomplish its goals and protect and improve the
health safety and welfare of our community.
